Its been a while since my last blog, partly due to the Euro 2008 qualifying games, partly due to my dad being in hospital. He's out now, and on the mend, but I will be taking two weeks off soon, to help him recouperate and to spend some time with my daughter. That will mean the blogs will be brief if i can manage to get them done. To this weekends matches then. I have my selections below, and i have added the odds i have managed to get. I nearly always use Betfair so the odds will come from them, and will be shown in there favourite format, not the traditional bookies odds. I am still sticking to smaller stakes as I haven't spent as much time researching as I would have liked, and feel its better to limit them to smaller amounts for now.
Barnsley v Scunthorpe - Over 2.5 Goals - 2.00 Burnley v Blackpool - Over 2.5 Goals - 1.96 Gillingham v Brighton - Over 2.5 Goals - 2.02 Brentford v MK Dons - Over 2.5 Goals - 1.89 Mansfield v Chesterfield - Over 2.5 Goals - 1.94 Falkirk v Hibs - Over 2.5 Goals - 1.95 Dundee v Dunfermline - Over 2.5 Goals - 1.99 Hamilton v Stirling - Over 2.5 Goals - 1.63 Peterhead v Airdrie - Over 2.5 Goals - 1.78 Queens Park v Alloa - Over 2.5 Goals - 1.9 Montrose v East Fife - Over 2.5 Goals - 1.82
I also want to mention a link to a site I think you will be interested in. its form a guy here in Scotland called Greg Gordon, who is doing some great things backing matches up here. The site is at http://www.scottish-football-bet.co.uk/ and i will also put a link to the left hand side of this blog. Well worth checking out.

Lets start by recapping the weekends results.
Fulham v Spurs - Over 2.5 Goals I dont really need to go into this one, 6 goals, lots of goal mouth action, just like i expected. Bolton v Everton - Over 2.5 Goals This was a close one, with Everton scoring in the last minute, but what I hoped for, both scoring, with Everton shading it. Sheffield Wednesday v Bristol City - Over 2.5 Goals An early goal and I thought it was going my way, but one reason Wednesday are at the bottom is that luck has deserted them, and that was the case on Saturday Colchester v Burnley - Over 2.5 Goals A good result for Burnley and me, a 5 goal thriller, and just how I hoped it would go. Leeds v Luton - Over 2.5 Goals A poor game, I thought Luton had more to offer. Maybe I was fooled by the league table, with Leeds still sitting bottom!! Rotherham v Chester - Over 2.5 Goals John Danby kept Chester in this game, and helped me lose my money, with some fine saves. Aberdeen v Kilmarnock - Under 2.5 Goals As expected, little goal mouth action, and only the one goal St Mirren v Celtic - Over 2.5 Goals Celtic romped home, and a nice payout. Partick v Hamilton - Over 2.5 Goals Expected more from Partick, but Hamilton kept it going with 3 away goals Ayr v Alloa - Over 2.5 Goals 2-0 to the home team and a fine performance by Ayr's keeper. Close, but not close enough. Albion v East Stirling - Over 2.5 Goals East stirling are shaking off there worst team in Britain label, with a fine fight back to earn them the points and me some cash.
So seven out of eleven winners isnt bad, but as i said still at reduced stakes. Tonight I wont be going near the Motherwell v Hearts game. In the Championship Blackpool take on Hull. There is nothing to indicate a hogh or low scoring game, though Nick Barmby is missing for Hull, so another game I will leave alone. The next few days will be quiet as we are back on International duty.

With my father still in the hospital, my time has been used up with other things. This weekends selections are still at the smaller stakes, so no real harm done. As of next week the plan was to up the stakes, but i will maybe keep them low for couple weeks more. This week I will be having the following bets this weekend
Fulham v Spurs - Over 2.5 Goals Bolton v Everton - Over 2.5 Goals Sheffield Wednesday v Bristol City - Over 2.5 Goals Colchester v Burnley - Over 2.5 Goals Leeds v Luton - Over 2.5 Goals Rotherham v Chester - Over 2.5 Goals Aberdeen v Kilmarnock - Under 2.5 Goals St Mirren v Celtic - Over 2.5 Goals Partick v Hamilton - Over 2.5 Goals Ayr v Alloa - Over 2.5 Goals Albion v East Stirling - Over 2.5 Goals

Well a miserable weekend for the over/unders, let me see if i can find where it all went wrong
Arsenal v Man City - Over 2.5 goals I expected Arsenal to breach city's goal, and with them missing a penalty they should have had two. As for City, thought hardly free scoring I hoped the confidence of being top of the league would have helped push them on. Sheffield Utd v West Brom - Over 2.5 Goals Got this one completely wrong, no excuses. Gretna v Motherwell - Over 2.5 Goals This one was bang on what I expected, a Motherwell win, with Gretna still not learning how to survive in the SPL. Once again they go down to 10 men, though both Motherwell goals were fortunate. ICT v Dundee Utd - under 2.5 goals Two penalty's in the second half ruined this one. When I heard United were playing Lee Wilkie, there centre half, up front, thought I had this one nailed on. then he falls on his arse and the ref gives a soft penalty and my money goes up in smoke. Dundee v Partick Thistle - Over 2.5 Goals Not quite as I thought, but still a winning bet. I thought Partick would have offered more, but still 3 home goals gives us the win. Airdrie Utd v Queens Park - Over 2.5 Goals How this game lost me my money I dont know, as Ardrie were in top form and should have scored 5 or 6. The problem with the lower leagues is the lack of quality. But I can learn from this.
So 2 from 6 this weekend, not very good, but I am still only using small stakes.
This week we are back to European games and Carling Cup and CIS Cup games. I dont like cup games too much but will see what there is on offer and report back

Three out of 5 winners at the weekend, giving us a small profit overall. Let me go into a bit more detail with my thoughts on the selected games.
Birmngham v West Ham - over 2.5 goals This was a game I wasn't sure about, and listening to it on the radio I should hacve steared clear of, two teams who cancelled each other out. I have been impressed with west Hams summer signings and thought both teams were capable of getting goals! Berwick v Airdrie - over 2.5 goals i thought Airdrie had the ability to score away from home, and Berwicks keeper looks to have spoilt this bet as he recorded some excellent saves to keep a clean sheet. I will have to remember him next time!! East Stirling v Forfar - over 2.5 goals East Stirling recorded there third win in a row and the new owners have turned the club around. Full of confidence, this game was a good choice. I wasn't sure they could keep a clean sheet and was proved right. Rangers v Falkirk - over 2.5 goals Well slightly only more than 2.5 goals here, 9 in fact. Falkirk did the same last week to Celtic, played excellent for 60 minutes then imploded before the end. But plenty of goals and a good choice. Aberdeen v Celtic - over 2.5 goals Game went how I thought, Aberdeen 1-0 up and then as soon as Celtic equalised, the home team crumbled. Neither defence looked very good.
So three out of five but out of the two losing games I would only have dropped the Birmingham game if i were to do it again, as it was too much a gamble. nothing until the weekend as it is International time again.

I'm leaving it late today, as its nearly 2.50pm. I wont be cheating with this blog, so no sticking down Portsmouth v Bolton as n over bet when it has just finished 3-1!!!!! todays selections are below, i will give my reasons why later on, so have a nice and profitable weekend!!
Birmngham v west Ham - over 2.5 goals Berwick v Airdrie - over 2.5 goals East Stirling v Forfar - over 2.5 goals Rangers v Falkirk - over 2.5 goals Aberdeen v Celtic - over 2.5 goals

Well that was disappointing last night, especially because I had identified that Man Utd had striker problems. But its still early in the season and stakes just now are low. I should point out how my staking will work. For the first 6 weeks of the season, I will be playing with small stakes, 2.5% of my bank. Once the 6 weeks has past I will increase those stakes to 5% with the amount increasing or decreasing with each bet. And for example, say I have three selections one day, I will stake each at 5% of my bank, then roll it up or down. So next post will be for this weekends games. One that stands out is the Manchester Derby, with United missing Ronaldo and Rooney where will the goals come from?

Well I should have went for Spurs v Everton last night, shouldn't I!!! I should have followed my gut instinct, but well there you go, its gone now. Tonight I fancy the Portsmouth v Man Utd game to have more than 3 goals. United will be desperate to get back into winning ways, even though they generally start poorly most seasons, and they are missing Wayne Rooney. Tevez was the star player in the Premiership last season, and will make a huge impact at Utd. The one concern is the lack of recognisable strikers at the club, but they have various options who can score in Giggs and Ronaldo. Portsmouth are always strong against United at home, and I expect another strong performance. I'm not sure which way this game will go but I can see there being goals. In the other matches, the only one I really have an opinion on is the Reading v Chelsea game, a game I can see finishing 1-0 Chelsea. Reading done well on Sunday, but more will be expected of them at home, so they may get stretched more. Sundays 3-2 win hopefully means a more exciting Chelsea team, but this was the type of games they scored in then shut up shop in last season, and I think they may well do the same tonight!!

Last night's game struck home how hard this gambling lark can be. I was fairly sure Kilmarnock v dundee Utd would be a low scoring game. Neither team has an abundance of talent up front, but both have strong defences. But I wasn't sure enough to place an under 2.5 goals bet. I listened to the game last night and up to the 75th minute it looked like another los scoring game. United were one up due to defensive mistake by Killie and there had been hardly any chances by either team as the defenders had controlled the game. The in the 76th minute the ref sent off Kalvenes with what sounded like a very poor decision. The game turned on that and Killie scored two late goals. These are the things that are totally out with anyone's control. But it also adds to the excitement and makes it even more challenging for the punter. And i am sure someone who backed over 2.5 goals was happy!! Spurs play Everton tonight. Spurs defence last year wasn't up to much, but I haven't enough faith in an overs bet though i think thats where it will go, so i will leave this game alone.

Well two out of two from the weekend selection, but there was goals everywhere. In Scotland three out of fiva games in division 1 had more than 2.5 goals, all five games in Division 2 had over 2.5 goals and three out of five games in division 3 had over 2.5goals. Nothing for tonights game, speak to you soon

the same old problems arise, in that I never get enough time to do this properly. We are smack bang in the middle of holiday season so while my colleagues are off sunning themselves I am stuck in the office until silly times on a Fridat night!! Anyway, today the english leagues begin and its still more of a time to absorb informatino rather than go in with heavy bets. It really is impossible to take too much from pre seaon games. For the big english clubs this is now a time for making money. Liverpool are a perfect example of a team who have been very busy pre season, and have spent a lot of money. But we really have no idea how they will do, only when the season starts can we see how players will fit in together. Today I have picked only two games. the first is Falkirk v Celtic. Celtic need a win, Falkirk scored 4 away from home last week, so both teams should be capable of scoring. I think Celtic will edge it though. Secondly i am going for Bolton v Newcastle. Most first games of the season have the fans up for it, but with Big Sam returning to Bolton there should be plenty of action. He has an inside knowledge of Boltons players and should be able to make that count. ammy Lee may be a great coach but we will now see if he can cut it as a manager. Here's hoping for plenty of goals!!

disappointing result last night, especially with Hibs scoring in the 2nd minute. Both teams were short of any quality up front with no real quality striker on show, but another lesson learnt. This process will be a learning curve, it may take all season, it may even take longer, but i will get there eventually. So thats only one win in four, but more games to look forward to at the weekend. There are some cup games in Scotland but I wont be having an interest in them.

So I started the new season with only 1 out of 3 correct predicitons. Thats okay though, because I knew it was going to be tough. So lets have a look at the games
Dundee Utd v Aberdeen - with Utd going down to 10 men in the 39th minute it was always going to be tough, as they were only playing with one up front when they had 11 on the pitch. Aberdeen never turned up, and missed two sitters, so never going to be my day.
Stirling Albion v Partick Thistle - finished 1-1 so only a goal away, and an entertaining affair. Hope there would be more goal mouth action though.
St Mirren v Motherwell - finished as predicted, with only 1 goal for Motherwell, though they missed a penalty and should have scored more.
Tonight Hearts play Hibs and I fancy a few goals. Craig Gordon is missing for Hearts as he is in talks with Sunderland and Aston Villa. Kingston is also missing so Hibs will see this as a good opportunity to grab all three points. These games are usually high scoring and I can see a repeat tonight.

Well today's the day, the start of the new football season, and the sun is shinning. Here's hoping this blog's season is a success. So down to today's selections. First selection includes my own team, Aberdeen. We are away to Dundee Utd, and these games usually involve goals. United have had to take in a replacment keeper as there new number one Grzegorz Szamotulsk is injured. They are also missing Lee Wilkie at the back through suspension and midfielder Mark Kerr. Up front they look quite weak with no new major signings. Aberdeen have to deal with the loss of Russell Anderson to Sunderland and have a new keeper in Derek Soutar who takes over at Number One from Jamie Langfield who was dropped for making a prat of himself while drunk on his stag do. The defence has been strengthened with Lee Mair and Jackie MacNamara coming in, but the defence has been tried out in a variety of formations and it may take a few more weeks of tinkering before a settled line up is decided. Up front our forwards have been playing well over pre season and we have a few options, so I am expecting a 2-1 win, aso my selection is over 2.5 goals. My second game Stirling Albion v Partick Thistle. Partick Thistle have a new manager in, as is normally the case with them each season, but this year they look like an adventurous team, playing with two wingers. They have recently brought in Stephen Conner on loan from Everton, Gary Harkins from Grimsby Town and David Rowson has returned to the team. They will be going all out for an open day win, but Stirling Albion will have other ideas. They were promoted to the 1st Division through the play offs last year. They will still be part time and will find this league hard, but everyone starts theseano optimistic. I cant see them taking anything from todays game, but they have goals in them, even with last season's top scorer missing, so my bet is over 2.5 goals. I cant see much goals in the St Mirren game against Motherwell. St Mirrens new striker Craig Dargo is out injured and I cant see where else the goals will come from. Motherwell are still gelling under new manager Mark McGhee but haven't looked good in pre season. Few goals, so under 2.5 for me. Other games looked promising but at this stage of the season it is so unpredictable. So just the three bets today. I will be having a treble today, of Falkirk, Rangers and Morton. A tenner treble will pay out £70. Hope you enjoy the games this weekend, sp speak to you soon.

My first selections of the new season will be out tomorrow. At the moment I am looking at the following games
Dundee Utd v Aberdeen Morton v Clyde Stirling v Partick Thistle Ross County v Ayr United
I will put out my final selections tomorrow. For the first 6 weeks of each league, I will reduce my bets to 2.5 % of my bank. The usual bets will be 5% but that may vary from time to time. speak with you all tomorrow

So only two days to go until the start of the football season here in Scotland, and I can't wait. My team Aberdeen are looking good, even though we lost our captain Russell Anderson to Sunderland. We have made som good signings and for the first time in a few years have competition for places. Not to say we are the finished article, or will be able to compete over the course of a season with the Old Firm, but we are going in the right direction. This blog has been changed, so let me give you a run down. Each week i will be making selections in the over/under 2.5 goals catagory. Over the course of the season the aim is to make money. There should be a selection most weeks. The start of the season will be quite slow, as teams need a few weeks to settle in, as the seaon develops the selections should increase. I will be concentrating on Scottish and English league games, no cup games or International games at the moment. The first selections will be sent out tomorrow night. Let the fun begin

a quick message to let you all know i am still alive, and that I am looking forward to getting back into the swing of things when the season kicks off. I will be playing it very slow to start with, probably for the first 6 matches, or until we can see a pattern emerging. As much as past data will be helpful it cant be relied upon in any great detail. Take Man City for example, they haven't scored a home goal this year, but look like they are going to get Rolando Bianchi from Regginia, a quality player who will no doubt get them goals. Eriksson will totally rebuild that team, and I can see him being a success. But time will tell. My own team, Aberdeen, have lost our captain Russell Anderson to Sunderland. How we will cope without him is a big mystery. Last season we lost every game he missed. Once again, time will tell. I will also be keeping a close eye on the rpe season games though dont think they count to much towards how a team performs in the season. But there may be clues as to who looks hot in front of goal, and who's defence are all over the place. I will speak with you before the season starts as the updates gets more frequent.
