23 November 2006 - TUESDAY: An Akilak lustre day

No lay bets to report on today - no opportunities presented themselves, so I kept my powder dry.

A small loss on my back-to-win selections. I scored two winners but at short prices which didn't quite cover the three losses. Very disappointing to see Akilak beaten. He didn't run a bad race, but unfortunately came across a horse showing a big improvement in form. The eventual winner has class 3 form over hurdles, but Akilak has been running well in Listed company, and his class should have prevailed. But this is racing, and races like this make the challenge of returning a profit from betting all the more appealing. There is no such thing as a 'sure thing'.

When I came to count my money at the end of the afternoon, I had lost just half a point, so no real damage done to the account.
