4 November 2006 - FRIDAY: Named At Dinner Pays For My Supper

I managed a cracking piece of value when I backed Named At Dinner at just over 10/1 on Betfair this morning. I wasn't going to hold my breath for a win, as this horse had yet to win under this code. But he had shown form in a higher class to compare with the other runners, and would always be worth a punt at that kind of price. His price came right in to 9/2 at the off, and I was sorely tempted to lay him off to lock in a guaranteed profit.

I backed three other horses but without success, leaving a profit of over 7 points.

I consider myself a little unlucky not to produce a profit with my lay bets today as well, breaking even before my last selection Bishops Bridge at Fontwell. After much deliberation by the stewards, it looked like the favourite would forfeit the race after cutting across the rallying runner-up. But the powers that be eventually decided not to alter the places, and I ended up down by 1.5 points.
